Curtain up on 2023 MTW season 

The 2023 season starts with “Rock of Ages,” May 31-June 4, the story of a Kansas girl seeking fame in Los Angeles. The outdoor extravaganza “Red White and Broadway,” July 1-4, combines Broadway tunes with patriotic songs and a fireworks finale. 

Disney’s beloved “Beauty and the Beast” takes the stage at Century II July 26-30. A special kids’ matinee is planned for July 27. “Ragtime,” a sweeping musical portrait of the early 20th century is Aug. 16-20. The season culminates with “Cats” Sept. 6-10.

‘Wizard of Oz’ among MTW shows

Music Theatre Wichita launches its 2022 season May 18-22 with “Jersey Boys” under the stars at Capitol Federal Amphitheater. The rest of the season’s performances will be at Century II: “42nd Street,” June 15-19; “Kinky Boots,” July 6-10; “Wizard of Oz,” July 27-31; and “Drowsy Chaperone,” Aug. 17-21.

Music Theatre announces 2019 season

Music Theatre Wichita will open its 48th season June 12-16 with “Sound of Music.” The 2019 season continues June 26-30 with “An American in Paris,” a Broadway classic inspired by the Academy Award winning film. 

“A Chorus Line,” winner of nine Tony awards and the Pulitzer Prize, returns to the MTW stage July 10-14. Next up July 24-28 is “Chicago,” based on a true crime drama and featuring signature Bob Fosse moves. The season finale Aug. 7-11 is “In the Heights,” Lin-Manuel Miranda’s claim to fame before he penned “Hamilton.”  

Performances are Wednesday-Sunday evenings with weekend matinees at Century II Concert Hall. Season tickets are now on sale at MTWichita.org.

Music Theatre lights up summer

Music Theatre WichitaMusic Theatre Wichita’s 47th season continues July 11-15 with the area premiere of a new musical, “Freaky Friday,” based on the popular 1972 novel and the hit Disney films.

Circus spectacle and Fosse-style choreography are front and center in MTW’s reimagining of the 1972 Broadway hit “Pippin” July 25-29. The musical features an unforgettable score by Stephen Schwartz (“Wicked,” “Hunchback of Notre Dame”).

Closing the season is Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” Aug. 8-18. Performances are Wednesday-Sunday evenings with weekend matinees at Century II Concert Hall.
